Don’t Try This at Home

Wired magazine recently wrote about amateur chemistry in an article titled “Don’t Try This at Home” also covered on BoingBoing.net and OpenScience.org (and probably lots of other places too).

I think there are two key points in this article:

Hands-on chemistry education, particularly labs for younger students, is being cut back in the name of safety. (OpenScience.org [...]

ChemSpotlight: Indexing Chemistry on your Mac

I recently released a new software project that grew out of a personal need. I have thousands of chemistry files on my computer and no good way to sift through them. The web may have sites like Chmoogle and great databases of chemical data out there.

Science: Not for Normal People?

I admit, I have to catch up on some blogging.

A few weeks ago, the BBC had an article called “Science ‘not for normal people’“.

Around 70% of the 11-15 year olds questioned said they did not picture scientists as “normal young and attractive men and women”.
