This molecule-of-the-moment is capsaicin, the active component in jalapeno and other hot peppers. After cooking up a batch of spicy food tonight, it seemed appropriate.

In addition, I’ve taken the opportunity to add actual coordinates to the pictures in my molecular gallery (in XYZ, Mol2, or PDB formats, courtesy of Open Babel, naturally). Shortly, I’m going to take advantage of the coordinates and add a real molecular gallery with Jmol allowing everyone to play with the molecules in 3D.
